Preliminary information
On October 7, 2026, at 1021 eastern daylight time, a Cessna 525 airplane, N600AL, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Bedford, Pennsylvania. One airline transport pilot sustained minor injuries, and the other airline transport pilot sustained serious injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 positioning flight.
The flight crew reported that they arrived at the departure airport and the first officer completed a preflight inspection of the airplane. The crew reported that preflight, engine start, and taxi were uneventful. They continued that the airplane accelerated normally during the takeoff roll. The captain, who was the pilot flying, reported that during the takeoff roll the controls felt heavier than normal and as the airplane reached rotation speed it didn’t “fly itself off the ground.” He then attempted to rotate and reported that the nose bounced at least once. The first officer reported that, during the takeoff roll, the captain stated he couldn’t lift the nose. The captain continued that the resistance on the yoke increased as the speed of the airplane increased. The captain subsequently made the decision to abort the takeoff and applied the brakes. The first officer stated that he deployed the speed brakes when the captain called for the aborted takeoff. The airplane departed the runway surface, crossed a grassy area, went through the airport perimeter fence, and came to rest in a field across from the airport. The airplane sustained substantial damage to the fuselage, both wings, and was partially consumed by postaccident fire.
The airplane was retained for further examination.
