Lindstrand Balloons aircraft in the FAA registry
Lindstrand Balloons was a manufacturer of hot air balloons and other aerostats founded by Swedish-born pilot Per Lindstrand in 1978 in Oswestry, England. The company, originally started as Colt Balloons, gained recognition for engineering the balloons flown by Lindstrand and Richard Branson on their record-breaking Atlantic (1987) and Pacific (1990) flights.
As of 2026-10-16, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) aircraft registry lists 252 aircraft under the manufacturer name "LINDSTRAND BALLOONS." These registrations represent 20 distinct models, with 249 valid registrations. The fleet consists mainly of balloon-type aircraft. Production data indicates that most aircraft were built between 1993 and 2022, with half of the registered fleet built in 2004 or earlier.
The majority of these aircraft hold standard airworthiness certificates (210), while 14 are classified as experimental. Geographically, Texas leads with 25 registrations, followed by New Mexico and Iowa, which each have 21.
The most numerous registered Lindstrand Balloons models include the 90A with 79 aircraft (built 1995 to 2009), the 77A with 53 aircraft (built 1995 to 2014), and the 105A with 35 aircraft (built 1995 to 2025). Other significant models include the 60X (14 aircraft, 2 seats), the 69A (12 aircraft), and the 120A (9 aircraft).
Type certificate data sheets (TCDS) for these top models are held under TCDS B00010CH by Lindstrand Balloons USA Inc. This certificate covers the 90A, 77A, 105A, 60X, and 69A models. Each model has its own page with specifications and the type certificate data sheet, and every aircraft has a registration record by N-number.
