Champion aircraft in the FAA registry

Champion Aircraft Corporation was founded by Robert "Bob" Brown, who purchased the design for the Aeronca Champion in 1954. Through the 1950s and 1960s, the manufacturer introduced variations on the 7-series design. Champion also developed the 8KCAB Decathlon and the twin-engined Lancer. In 1970, Bellanca Aircraft Corporation acquired Champion and continued production at the former plant.

According to the FAA registry, the manufacturer name is listed exactly as "CHAMPION". As of 2026-10-16, there are 1,604 registered aircraft under this name, representing 36 distinct models. Valid registrations total 1,587. The fleet consists of 1,596 fixed-wing, single-engine aircraft, all powered by reciprocating engines. Airworthiness classes include 1,452 standard, 66 multiple, and 33 restricted. Most aircraft were built between 1946 and 1971, with half produced in 1965 or earlier.

The most registered models are the 7ECA (419 aircraft, built 1964 to 1971), the 7FC (164 aircraft, built 1957 to 1963), and the 7EC (157 aircraft, built 1950 to 1962). Other significant models include the 7KCAB (151 aircraft, built 1967 to 1970), the 7AC (144 aircraft, built 1946 to 1958), and the 7GCBC (144 aircraft, built 1966 to 1971). Each model has its own page with specifications and the type certificate data sheet (TCDS), and every aircraft has a registration record by N-number.

The Type Certificate Data Sheets (TCDS) for these top models are covered under TCDS A-759, held by American Champion Aircraft Corp. This certificate covers the 7ECA, 7FC, 7EC, 7KCAB, and 7AC. Texas leads with 126 registrations, followed by Alaska with 116, and California with 111.
