Preliminary information

On May 30, 2026, about 1832 mountain standard time, a Cirrus Design Corp SR20 airplane, N447AV, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Phoenix, Arizona. The flight instructor, student pilot, and passenger were not injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations instructional flight.

The flight instructor reported that the airplane departed Phoenix Goodyear Airport (GYR), Goodyear, Arizona, and flew to Phoenix Deer Valley Airport (DVT), Phoenix, Arizona, to accomplish pattern work. The student pilot performed a normal landing and during the landing roll, when the nosewheel made contact with the runway, the nose landing gear collapsed.

Postaccident examination revealed substantial damage to the airplane’s firewall. Examination of the nose landing gear’s oleo strut showed that an internal piston locking screw was missing. The strut had been replaced in February 2026, and the airplane had flown about 306 hours since replacement.

The strut was retained for further examination.
