Probable cause
The pilot’s failure to extend the landing gear before landing.
NTSB analysis
The pilot reported that after the airplane departed the runway, the pilot’s door opened. The pilot then remained in the traffic pattern and returned to land on the runway with the landing gear retracted. The airplane sustained substantial damage to the lower fuselage. The pilot reported that there were no mechanical malfunctions or anomalies with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
