Probable cause
The pilot's inadequate takeoff performance planning, which resulted in a runway excursion and collision with terrain.
NTSB analysis
The pilot reported that, while attempting to takeoff from a remote airstrip in a tailwheel-equipped airplane, he miscalculated the airplaneās performance abilities, and the airplane overran the available takeoff area. The airplane struck terrain, which resulted in substantial damage to the fuselage. The pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
